Mr. Antnio Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees currently visited Japan paid a courtesy call on Mr. Seisuke Okuno, the President of the Foundation for the Welfare and Education of the Asian People

Mr. Antnio Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, accompanied by his suite including Mr. Robert Robinson, Representative and Mr. Hajime Kishimori, Deputy Representative in Japan visited the Foundation for the Welfare and Education of the Asian People (FWEAP) on the 25th of October, 2005 where High Commissioner met with Mr. Seisuke Okuno, the President of FWEAP. High Commissioner presented Mr. Okuno a bronze made plaque that he carried from Geneva recognizing the FWEAP's twenty six years of support for Indo-Chinese refugees resettled in Japan.

At the courtesy call, Mr. Okuno and Mr. Guterres exchanged their views on the matters of mutual interest including the issue relating to 11,000 refugees resettled in Japan, UNHCR's Resettlement Program, the quota refugee system that have been enforced in major leading countries. Following the call on Mr. Okuno, guided by Mr. Masahiro Fukukawa, the Director General of Refugee Assistance Headquarters (RHQ), High Commissioner briefly visited the head office of RHQ, where he encouraged the staffs working for refugees and asylum seekers.
